Donald T. Rave Jr. is a member of the firm and he was born at the Marine
Corps base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in 1952. In 1973 he received a
B.A. in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook
and received a JD from Fordham University School of Law in 1978. After
working for the Insurance Company of North America in a series of
commercial underwriting and marketing capacities, Don Jr. joined the New
York Maritime law firm of Bigham Englar Jones & Houston in 1979,
becoming a partner in 1986 and eventually Senior Partner in charge of
the firm’s Marine and Environmental Insurance and Reinsurance Practice
Group. In 1995 he resigned his partnership at Bigham Englar to join his
father Donald T. Rave Sr. in the firm he had founded in Locust Valley.
He continues to accept select maritime, insurance and reinsurance
matters. Don Jr. has litigated complex insurance and reinsurance
disputes across the country, has drafted and revised insurance and
reinsurance policies for both the American and London markets, and had
counseled major insurers as well as industry associations such as the
American Cargo War Risk Reinsurance Exchange, the Cargo Reinsurance
Association, United States Salvage Association, the National Cargo
Bureau, the American Institute of Marine Underwriters and the New York
Board of Fire Underwriters. Don is admitted to practice before the
state and federal courts in New York as well as the United States
Supreme Court. He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the
United States, the American, New York and Nassau County Bar
Associations. He currently serves as Secretary of the Lloyd Harbor
Yacht Club and is a Trustee in the Village of Huntington Bay.
